Preview: Jersey Shore Restaurant Week 2013

Jersey Shore Restaurant Week

Atlantic City Boardwalk on a postcard, circa 1913-1916.

After being cancelled last Fall due to the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy, Jersey Shore Restaurant Week returns today with more than 60 restaurants participating. Patrons can enjoy 3-course prix-fixe dinners (for $20 and $30) at a wide variety of eateries up and down the Shore. The Asbury Park Press bills it as “an event that will showcase a rejuvenated culinary scene along a rebuilt coastline.”

In addition to restaurant specials, JSRW has its own food events, including a bacon tasting called “Eat. Drink. Indulge. Bacon.” Guests will be able to try gourmet bacon dishes and “bacon-inspired” cocktails created by baconeer chef, Jimmy Vena.

Restaurant Weeks like the one in Jersey Shore have been popping up across the country. Owners use them to showcase their restaurants and attract new business during off-seasons, while diners get the chance to try a variety of cuisines at affordable fixed prices. Local food communities benefit from new connections being formed between owners, diners and area food writers.

Top restaurants with online delivery in Elizabeth NJ

Looking for online food delivery near Elizabeth, New Jersey? At BringMeThat, we recently added more than 2,300 NJ restaurants to our online food delivery service, including 25 in Elizabeth

Simply enter your location to browse restaurant menus, compare prices and quickly place delivery orders through the Web. No phone needed!

Here’s a guide to some of the best delivery options in the Elizabeth area:

Algarve Restaurant | Portuguese Food
656 Van Buren Ave, Elizabeth, NJ 07201

“Self-described healthy barbeque and Portuguese cuisine. Algarve Restaurant offers a range of food, from Frog Legs, to Filet Mignon, to pasta and seafood options [..] I can see why this is a local hot spot.  If I lived closer to Elizabeth, I’d certainly be a frequent visitor. The prices are just right (less than $20 for grilled Chilean Sea Bass!) and the seafood seemed surprisingly fresh; I no doubt underestimated the freshness from this unassuming restaurant in the middle of Elizabeth.” (Bergen County Foodie)

Don Julio Restaurant | Cuban / Hispanic / American
50 Marshall St, Elizabeth, NJ 07206

“Don Julio, a neighborhood restaurant facing the Elizabeth waterfront, is the perfect place to sample Peruvian “Chifa” cuisine. Chifa, from the Mandarin “to eat rice,” is the name for the distinctly Peruvian versions of Chinese food originating in Peru’s immigrant Chinatowns [...] Winning options off the Peruvian menu include the ceviche de pescado and a ginger-inflected seafood soup.” (Ethnic Food NJ)

Michelino’s Pizzeria | Pizza / Italian Food
169 Washington Ave, Elizabeth, NJ 07202

“Great Pizza! Our favorite. No other can compare near to Michelino’s. Even for my boyfriend who has an Italian born and raised palette. I hope this will not change. A neighborhood gem. Bravo!” (iDine)

Tequila’s Grill | Mexican / Hispanic / Bar / Grill
824 Pearl St, Elizabeth, NJ 07202

“Food is delicious and savory with the sense that you truly are getting a real Mexican experience and nothing made up or cookie cut as you would in most Mexican restaurants in the tri-state area.” (Yelp!)

Seaport Diner | Greek / Irish / Deli / Sandwiches
798 Dowd Ave, Elizabeth, NJ 07201

“This diner looks like it is straight out of Goodfellas. It’s the stereotype of diners. The food is amazing. The Greek salad I ordered was delicious. Fresh feta, and vegetables and a great authentic tasting dressing. The others people at my table got a Reuben and a Philly cheesesteak by with which they were both impressed. Friendly quick service. Great food. Cheap prices. What’s not to love?” (UrbanSpoon)

Bella Pizza | Pizza / Pastas / Italian Food / Burgers / Seafood
5 Broad St, Elizabeth, NJ 07201

Top restaurants with online delivery in Erie PA

Looking for food delivery in Erie? At BringMeThat we recently added more than 1,900 Pennsylvania restaurants to our online food delivery service, including 26 in Erie.

Simply enter your location to browse restaurant menus, compare prices and quickly place delivery orders through the Web. No phone needed!

Here’s a guide to some of the best delivery options in the Erie area:

Teresa’s Deli | Pizza / Subs / Salads
5360 West Lake Rd, Erie, PA 16505
Website

When you talk about getting your money’s worth, Teresa’s is the name for it! You get HUGE portions and the prices aren’t even pricey to begin with. Homecooking and delicious! (Insider Pages)

Famous Dave’s | Barbecue / Chicken Wings / Soups / Salads
7165 Peach St, Erie, PA 16509

“Lucky for me I found Famous Dave’s. The chopped pork was amazing. I tend to drown mine in sauce so I mixed rich and sassy with zesty and sweet. Mac and cheese was another shining star with jalapeños and corn mixed in. The sweet tea could have used a little more sugar, but that’s probably just my southern roots. Will be back again for sure.” (Urbanspoon Review)

Golden Wok | Chinese Food
3204 Pittsburgh Ave, Erie, PA 16508
Website

“The best Chinese I’ve had in town. What I liked is the obvious freshness of the food. The pork fried rice has a stir fry flavor and wasn’t greasy. The wonton soup had plenty of wontons in it, and the bbq ribs had that same stir fry flavor. The chicken in garlic sauce tasted delicious with fresh veggies and hot peppers. They also do delivery.” (Yahoo! Travel Review)

Valerio’s Pizza | Chinese Food
1803 E 38th St, Erie, PA 16510
Website

“Taco Ball …These are the words that lured me here. They take a pepperoni ball, slice it open, add taco meat, lettuce and tomato, and serve it with sour cream and picante sauce. It was splendid … and cheap! Two could easily make a meal. But my friend that I went with wanted a calzone … and these are amazing, loaded with cheese! And one calzone was more than enough for two people. We had leftovers.” (Yelp! Review)

Calamari’s Squid Row | Seafood  / Italian Food / Soups / Wraps
1317 State St, Erie, PA 16501

Barbato’s Italian Restaurant | Pizza / Subs / Salads
1529 W 38th St, Erie, PA 16508

BringMeThat News and Reviews

Online food delivery

Hot off the presses!

BringMeThat was recently featured in The Temple News, the student paper at Temple University in Philadelphia. Reporter Sarae Gdovin wrote about BringMeThat’s expansion into Philadelphia and about the state of the online food delivery business.

“The convenience of food delivery used to be restricted to pizza and the occasional Chinese restaurant. But now, more and more restaurants are offering delivery for their customers. Websites like GrubHub and Seamless have made it easier by providing information on delivery to restaurants in large cities. A new website, BringMeThat.com, is taking that idea and expanding out of large cities, bringing a database of food delivery nationwide.” (The Temple News)

_____

The Food Hussy wrote a service review of BringMeThat after ordering a meal from our site. The Food Hussy has been blogging about Cincinnati restaurants and food culture for five years now. In June, she wrote a guest post for us exploring the best lesser-known restaurants in Cincinnati.

“It’s so much easier to go to one site rather than hunt and peck and wonder who delivers in my area. You might even find out about a new restaurant you didn’t even know was in your neck of the woods.” (The Food Hussy)

_____

The Philadelphia food blog, Phoodie, wrote a tongue-in-cheek article about our Pennsylvania launch, entitled: “BringMeThat.com Now Delivers In Pennsylvania Because You’re Fat AND Lazy.” Honestly, the real reason we’ve added online food delivery in Pennsylvania is because you’re smart and beautiful.

“[BringMeThat] is offering delivery not just to the big mean cities, but the suburbs and the Alabama part of Pennsylvania as well [...] Of BringMeThat’s 1999 restaurants in PA, 1480 of them are scattered about the state. As a suburban kid at heart, we can’t help but have slightly warmer cockles at the very idea of this idea.” (Phoodie)

_____

David L. McCreary is a food writer for Cary Magazine and for his own blog, Lunchboy Says. He tried out BringMeThat’s service and wrote a review of the experience.

“Recently I had the opportunity to check out an interesting online food delivery service called BringMeThat. Let’s face it: Sometimes it’s nice when you don’t have to cook or leave home to get quality grub! Bottom line: It’s a legitimate and convenient service available to make life easier for people like you and me. Be sure to give it a try.” (Lunchboy Says)

Center Avenue Slice | Pizza / Salad / Soup / Italian Food
332 Center Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15229

“The pizza came quickly. It was hot and delicious. The crust was crusty and chewy (I love a good pizza crust) and well cooked. The sausage was by far some of the best I have had on a pizza. The cheese pulled for miles as you lifted a slice off the pan. There were so many toppings that they fall off as you pull a slice.” (New-Burghers Food Blog)

Rose Tea Cafe | Taiwanese Food / Tea & Beverages / Asian Food
5874 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217

“I love this restaurant because the food is varied and packed with flavor; the service is quick, and the “bubble tea” (more on that later … ) is addictive.” (Pittsburgh Magazine)

BringMeThat Press Roundup – 7/3/2013

Online food delivery

Hot off the presses!

The Duke Chronicle in Durham, NC just published an article about BringMeThat and our connection to the Triangle Startup Factory:

So far, 1459 restaurants in North Carolina are listed on the BringMeThat website. 80 are specific to Durham, including chains as well as local staples like Parker & Otis and Ninth Street Bakery. In addition to full menus, BringMeThat also lists minimum order amounts, delivery fees and notes such as “catering only.” [...]

The draw of online ordering is mostly to save the time it takes to make a full phone call, which often involves being put on hold. Liang also noted that the website saves customer preferences to make future ordering easier. (The Duke Chronicle)

_____

Elliot over at the fantastic eatRaleigh blog posted a review of BringMeThat after ordering Capital Creations through our site. A very thorough and fair write-up:

When first logging into the site I was delighted to see a clean and cool design. Some of the other delivery service websites look like they were designed by middle school computer classes [...] The delivery time was as promised, clocking in at around 40 minutes. Everything was well packaged and still warm [...]

Raleigh will continue to grow, and with it many more homebodies and couch potatoes will be in search of great food at the convenience of Bring Me That. – (eatRaleigh)

_____

In June, BringMeThat completed its session at the Triangle Startup Factory. The culmination was Paradoxos — a two-day festival in Durham spotlighting entrepreneurship and technology. On the first day of the festival, “pitch day,” BringMeThat CEO Jason Liang explained the company to an audience of investors and Media. Beforehand, co-founder Michael LaMarca sat down for an interview with ExitEvent.

“The community here has really been amazing,” LaMarca said. “It’s been great to be part of Durham’s startup scene. With it only being a few years old, it’s like being part of something ground level.”

And if Paradoxos turns out like its organizers hope, Durham won’t be ground level for much longer. – (ExitEvent)

Also, a shout-out to Nanci O, who we met at Paradoxos and who mentioned us on her great blog about hip-hop in the Southeast.

BringMeThat now feeding Pennsylvania

BringMeThat is officially live in Pennsylvania! We’re now offering online food delivery from 2,000 restaurants in hundreds of cities across the Keystone State. By simply entering their address, hungry users from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh to Altoona can browse restaurants near them and place delivery orders entirely online.

For a long time, ordering delivery has been a sloppy process. Customers have had to hunt one-by-one for restaurants, hope they could find menus and prices somewhere and then go through the tedious process of placing the order via phone. With online food delivery, restaurant data is aggregated and easily searchable. Users can see menus, prices, order minimums and delivery fees. Instead of calling, customers can place orders through a quick and simple online checkout system. At BringMeThat, customer service representatives are on-call to handle any concerns.

Pennsylvania online food delivery

While some national companies offer this type of service in big cities like Philadelphia, they generally do not cover small-and-medium sized cities. In addition to serving large metros, BringMeThat aims to support small, local restaurants in underserved areas by driving orders from the Web.

BringMeThat, which debuted in Ohio at the beginning of the year, has just completed a Spring session at the Triangle Startup Factory in Durham, North Carolina — the leading startup incubator in the Southeast. With the expansion into PA, BringMeThat is now active in four states (OH, NC, PA and NJ) and offers delivery from 7,500 restaurants.

Looking forward, BringMeThat will be expanding its service to the entire East Coast en route to becoming national.

For more information, contact BringMeThat at [email protected].
